Part of Florence Rumsey

A native of New York, Florence Rumsey graduated from Smith College and did additional courses at Dartmouth and Newton Theological Institute before being appointed as a missionary to Japan in 1909. After six years she returned to take a post in Seattle at the Fujin Japanese Woman’s Home. She, along with fellow missionaries Esther McCullough and May Herd Katayama and pastor Emery Andrews, relocated to Twin Fall, Idaho to continue ministering to the congregation of Japanese Baptist Church at Minidoka. She returned to Seattle after the war and continued her work with Fujin Home and JBC. Her ministry spanned more than 50 years.
