Yasushi Wada

Item

Yasushi Wada moved from Japan to Los Angeles in 1931 after his parents, Rev. Masahiko Wada and Kuniko Wada, were invited to serve as missionaries to the Japanese migrant population of the area. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, his parents were both arrested by the FBI; Yasushi would be incarcerated at Poston, while the rest of the Wada family ultimately reunited at Amache. Yasushi gained admission to Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, but remained focused on helping other Japanese American Christians, including volunteering as a youth pastor at Amache in 1945. Following the war he led the Minneapolis Nisei-Caucasian Fellowship and served the First Baptist Church of St. Paul, Minnesota.
