Muriel Ferguson was first assigned as a WABHMS missionary in San Francisco beginning in 1940. She had received a BA in sociology from Linfield College and an MA from Berkeley Baptist Divinity School. In January of 1943 she was released from the Christian Friendliness Department to work with relocation efforts. She began in Chicago for several months before moving on to New York City as Resettlement Secretary of the NY Church Committee for Japanese Americans. In Chicago, she reports that her main tasks are helping Nisei locate jobs and housing, often accompanying them when applying for the latter to allay suspicions of landlords.
